Let It Out: Making Your Clothes Bigger (and Why There's No Shame in the Game)

Let’s be real for a moment - bodies change. Sometimes we gain a little weight. Sometimes we just want more breathing room. And sometimes a garment we love is just a little too tight in the wrong places. At Giselle Clothing Design, I'm not about forcing your body into a garment that doesn’t fit. I'm about making the garment work for you

Why Make Clothes Bigger?

Maybe your favorite dress feels snug in the bust. Or maybe those jeans you thrifted are perfect… except you can’t sit in them. Instead of tossing them or feeling bad, let’s normalize adjusting your clothes to fit your life. Making clothes bigger is an act of love - love for your body, your comfort, and the planet. It's a slow fashion solution that extends the life of your wardrobe, reduces waste, and helps you feel amazing in what you wear.

How It Works

Depending on the garment and how it was made, there are a few ways we can give it more space:

  • Letting out seams: Some garments have extra seam allowance hidden inside. With a little unpicking and resewing, we can give you up to a few extra centimeters of ease.
  • Adding panels or inserts: Want a little flair with your fit? Adding side panels (especially in a coordinating or contrast fabric) can make your piece even more unique.
  • Altering closures: Switching a zipper to a lace-up back or adjusting button placement can give you a little extra breathing room.
  • Stretchy hacks: For certain items, we can even add elastic or hidden gussets to allow for easier movement and more forgiving fits.

My Philosophy: No Shame, Just Solutions

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: your clothes should work for you. Not the other way around. If you want a favorite piece made bigger, hit me up. Whether it's a one of a kind vintage find, one of my handmade garments, or something you've had in your closet for years, we can find a solution that keeps you comfortable and confident.

Want to Chat About Alterations?

Send me a message or check out my website. I offer custom alterations and am happy to talk through options with you. Let's make your clothes fit you, not some outdated size chart.

P.S. Not everything can be made bigger (depends on the seams and construction), but I’ll always be honest and help you figure out what can be done.

Thank you for joining me and have a happy Sunday!
